You've cleaned the grout. Probably twice. Maybe you re-caulked the shower last spring, ran the fan longer, kept the door open after every shower, and those black spots still keep creeping back along the same lines. Bathroom mold is the most common problem we get called about in Madison, and nine times out of ten we can clear it in a single visit without ripping your shower apart.
If scrubbing isn't holding, the mold has moved past the surface, and at that point what you're reaching is only the visible edge of something bigger. Dark staining along caulk and grout that won't lift with bleach means it's grown into the material itself. A musty smell that hits you walking into the room, even when everything looks dry, usually points to something behind the wall or under the floor. Peeling or bubbling paint near the ceiling is another tell, especially if your exhaust fan vents into the attic instead of out through the soffit or roof.
